Inauguration of solar PV manufacturing facility (Phase 1) of Solar Semiconductor Private
Ltd.
Hyderabad, India - September 16, 2009 marks a
memorable day in the history of Solar Semiconductor. Dr Farooq Abdullah,
Hon’ble Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy,
Govt. of India inaugurated the phase 1 of the solar
manufacturing facility. Hon’ble Chief Minister of
Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Konijeti Rosaiah
inaugurated the automation unit of the manufacturing
facility and reliability testing lab. Mr. Kanna
Lakshminarayana, Minister for Major Industries,
Commerce & Export promotion and Food Processing,
Govt. of Andhra Pradesh inaugurated the Solar Power
Plant at Solar Semiconductor. Ms. P. Sabita Indra
Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for Home, Govt. of
Andhra Pradesh inaugurated Surya Gruha, solar PV kit
for electrification of rural homes. Hon’ble Chief
Minister of Govt. of Andhra Pradesh Mr. Konijeti
Rosaiah inaugurated the Surya Ganga™ series of SPV
Pump Systems to address rural water supply and
irrigation needs.
Mr. Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Hon’ble Minister for
Major & Medium Irrigation, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, Ms.
T Manemma, MLA, Musheerabad along with senior
government officials of the government of AP graced
the occasion.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah highlighted the potential of solar
for electrification of rural villages and water supply
for irrigation. The minister indicated that he was
seeing interest for the same from various corners of
the country including Punjab. The minister promised
his best efforts to work closely with banks and
financial community to assure financing for solar
projects and extend project loans for a period of 20
years. The minister also promised to work closely with
the finance ministry to reduce taxes for importing
critical solar components to reduce the cost of solar
system to increase adoption of solar PV technology
while assuring to address the threat of low quality
Chinese products. In order to increase the awareness
about solar, Dr. Abdullah announced plans to allocate
Rs 1crore for the solar electrification of all Raj
Bhavan in the country. He also indicated his vision to
do the same for all secretariat buildings, residents
of all Chief Ministers and other minister houses. Dr
Abdullah also indicated plans to provide clean
renewable solar electricity to all religious places
including Tirupati, Shirdi, Ajmer and Amritsar.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Mr. Konijeti Rosaiah
reiterated their commitment to help realize the vision
of Late Dr. YS Rajashekhar Reddy to establish a Solar
Energy Research Centre (SERC) at Fab city. Mr.
Konijeti Rosaiah congratulated Solar Semiconductor for
its leadership in being the first company to establish
manufacturing operations at Fab City.
Mr. Vishnu Reddy, Executive Vice President of Solar
Semiconductor said that he was highly encouraged by
the support extended by both the central and state
government for Surya Gruha™, solar rural
electrification kit and Surya Ganga™, solar water
pumping solution. On behalf of Mr. Hari Surapaneni,
CEO and Founder of Solar Semiconductor, Mr. Venkat
Kode, Co-founder and Director of Solar Semiconductor
thanked the central and state ministers and government
officials for gracing the occasion with their
presence. He also presented a memorandum to Dr. Farooq
Abdullah offering suggestion for the development of
solar industry and market in India.
